Wastewater Treatment Plant

The City of Gig Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant treats millions of gallons of wastewater each year and provides service to approximately 11,490 Gig Harbor residents. The City's wastewater collection system, maintained by the treatment plant staff, consists of 57 miles of sanitary sewer lines, and 17 lift stations.

Treatment Process

Wastewater that leaves your home through sinks, showers, and toilets - flows through collection system lines to lift stations. Each lift station contains a pumping system which pumps the wastewater to the Gig Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant where it is treated and released into an outfall pipe that runs along the bottom of Gig Harbor Bay and then discharges into the Narrows. The Gig Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant adheres to strict Department of Ecology policies, standards and limitations before releasing the treated effluent to the water.
