The community development department is responsible for all land-use, planning, historic preservation, development and code enforcement within the city limits.
The department is guided by the city's Municipal Code and the International Building Code, as well as the long-range community blueprint set forth in the comprehensive plan. Using these sources, we strive to ensure that the type, scale, character and location of development - both public and private - reflects the community's vision and values. Sound planning practices will keep the city a desirable place to live, work and play.
The department serves a population of over 10,500 residents and includes the building & fire safety division and the planning division.
